1979 Smashing Pumpkins lesson

Acoustic lesson for the Smashing Pumkins’ song 1979 – standard tuning (This lesson is not tuned down to E flat like the record) Also a couple of corrections: 1) listen to the record for the proper strum pattern during the intro as it is distinct and I failed to include it here 2) at the chorus (first E chord), the E note on the 7th fret of the A string, also walks down to E flat. Weeee, don’t eeee-ven care…..

  1. Dude u should learn the song before u teach it

  2. That just sounds so cool. They must have polished the Song to much cuz U can't hear Pure Guitar on the Radio .

  3. billy corgan loves his bloody octaves

  4. cheers!

  5. Awesome

  6. 1) there is no slide in the second half of the verse riff. just bend, undo the bend, then mute that string as you walk.

    6b7b6- x 4 x 2 x 4 x 6 x 9 9 9 9 x

    watch him play it live.

    2) as you know for the second chord in the chorus, he also walks the bass note down to make the chord

BUT since the 9 is the same as the open b string, there's an easier way. You can cheat and do

which will affect your tone a little, but is a whole lot easier.

  13. I have trouble doing octaves cuz I do power chords with 2 fingers….they are tough for me iv'e ben playing on and off for about 10 years acoustic

  14. this lesson is horrendous!  back it up and just tell us what to bar or what chords to play.  The instruction must be for more advanced, but it doesn't need to be.   Sorry, just some basic critique.   Dumb it down, make it easier to follow.

  15. thank you so much (GREAT LESSON)!!!
