First Year Playing the Electric Guitar – Month by Month Progress

I started playing the electric guitar about one year ago today when I was 22. Over the past year I’ve been recording many clips of things I’ve been learning and I thought it would be cool to share my progress for other people getting started. Most of these videos I never expected to share, so please excuse the sound and video quality :).

I’ve been entirely self taught learning through different resources online. I tried to play every day when I was around my guitar, but with work and other things there were some long periods where I wasn’t able to play. But for the most part I’ve been pretty consistent.

I will be uploading many more song covers in the future, so stick around if you’d like to see more!

  9. Wow that is some great progress! Just make sure your fingers on the left hand are always curved and never flat, relax your body when you're playing, don't tense up, and make sure the guitar stays flat against your body, never let it slide at an angle. That's just my opinion but overall you're really getting good at it!
Edit: Also just wanted to add always best to learn a piece or a song slowly at first. Then when you start to feel comfortable start increasing the speed to how it's supposed to be. Also, when learning something new, it's a good idea to take a break if you're not getting it all the way. Better than getting frustrated and uspet. When you come back to it, it should be easier to play since you gave your brain some time to process what you were playing.

  10. You play better than my (currently) 18 year old brother and he’s been playing for 3 years and It still sounds awful
