An acoustic guitar lesson how to play Dear Prudence by the Beatles. John Lennon wrote this in India, inspired by Donavon’s finger picking style who was also on the trip.

The guitar I’m playing here is a Taylor GS Mini. I really like this guitar, it has a real warm tone and is easy to play.
The strings are Elixir phosphor bronze 12-53 with nanoweb coating. These strings are a little bit more expensive, but for me they easily last 4-5 times longer than non coated strings.

Folks may be surprised at how much time and effort goes into creating these videos. If you’re getting something out of the lessons and can afford to contribute to the cause, I’ve setup a Paypal link. If you can’t afford it no worries, but if you can, any amount is appreciated and will help me to continue to make the videos.

Thanks for all the comments, and questions and of course for subscribing. I really appreciate the support. Good luck to everyone with your guitar playing.

  1. Missed this one till now… Nice lesson! (as usual)

Do you know who plays this on the original track? I know it's John's song, but I'm not sure if it's him playing this guitar line. Very haunting and beautiful, whoever wrote it. Great tutorial!

  3. Hey what are the chords? I find it slightly difficult to eyeball the cords from your video.

  4. Good job.

  5. So appreciate your approach! It is refreshing to hear a teacher simply show the student where the fingers are placed and simply name the note he's on. By the time most teachers get through telling me where the "pinky", "pointer finger", "ring finger" and "bad" finger go on this or that string and this or that fret, I have done lost track of what it is I am learning and where I am in the process. I just want them to "get to the point", and that is exactly what you do. As a result, I learn faster from your videos than any I have tried. I play by ear also, and your approach works for me. You got skills, bro. Thank you!

  6. You were right. The "light" went on….it took about 3 hrs of practice, and the picking suddenly got easy and made sense. Thanks!

  9. Thanks dude. Just chipped in 10 euro for the awesome lessons. Specially the travis picking on julia and dear prudence helped me a lot. The only lesson missing (on youtube) is Happiness is a warm gun. I think he uses travis picking there as well. Just a suggestion.
