An acoustic guitar lesson on how to play “Dust In the Wind” by Kansas.
This is such a classic finger picking song and a great one to learn for those that are maybe just starting out with this style of playing. It incorporates a travis pick like so many acoustic finger picking songs do. It’s probably not as hard as it sounds to play, so if you’re new to this don’t be put off, once you learn the basic pattern, it should fall into place fairly quickly. The trick is not to rush yourself, play it only as fast as you can play it perfectly, and then gradually speed it up.
There’s 2 guitars on the original track, a 6 string and a 12 string, and I think there might have been a 3rd guitar added to fill it out, but all the parts are identical.
It’s kind of a must learn for guitarists. Sometimes I feel that this tune gets the same kind of bum rap as Stairway to Heaven, as in it’s considered over done and over played, but putting that aside, it really is an excellent song, musically and lyrically.
I hope you enjoy the lesson and have fun playing this great acoustic classic.
I get a lot of questions about my gear. You can read about it on my website here: https://www.shutupandplay.ca/gear.html
Folks may be surprised at how much time and effort goes into creating these videos. If you’re getting something out of the lessons and can afford to contribute to the cause, I’ve setup a donation page on my website. If you can’t afford it no worries, but if you can, any amount is appreciated and will help me to continue to make the videos.
Thanks for all the comments, and questions and of course for subscribing. A special thanks to all of those who have contributed financially, I really appreciate the support. Good luck to everyone with your guitar playing.
