This is the first video from the Lead Guitar Quick-Start Series. In this lesson Nate gives an overview of this series and gets you started with some advice for your fretting hand. If you are interested in learning to play lead guitar – you’ve come to the right place. This lesson series covers: basic hand technique, the major scale, the major pentatonic scale, the minor pentatonic scale, hammer-ons and pull-offs (legato technique), vibrato technique, playing guitar solos, and more.

Best of all, it includes some free jam-tracks that you can use to apply everything you learn along to real music. That way you don’t just learn the concepts behind lead guitar, but you also have an opportunity to put you knowledge to practice.

Get started with this first lead guitar lesson and continue on with the next video when you are ready. You can find the rest of the series here:

  1. hi its too difficult to learn scales ??

  2. Can i practice this on acoustic guitar?

  3. What I dont get is the angle the guitar should be away from the body. Most people say angle and they mean facing a person. So angle of guitar as compared to the ground should be 45 degree or horizontal as compared to the ground. But what about angle compared to a person's body? That requires looking at the top of someone's head down to their feet from above, or perhaps from below. What should THAT angle be so you don't hurt yourself? I've tried bringing the hand up but the hand flexes side to side trying to fret notes with different fingers.

This is different fm the hand flexing up and down at the wrist, where the palm gets nearer or farther away from the bottom of the forearm. This side to side wrist motion brings the pinky/thumb nearer or farther away from the SIDE of your forearm and is starting to cause damage to my hand.

what angle should the guitar be from the person holding?

All you have to do is remove the so-called backing tracks of rhythm, drums, bass, other guitars, and listen to a so-called lead guitar, and what you hear is a bunch of single notes. Single notes are easy. Playing chords isn't. Also, whats up with people buying mismatched paneled painted guitars? That just looks so tacky. You can see a line as if its made by a crap luthier.

  5. Hi! I'm having trouble in developing timing while playing the drums and guitar. For example , if I count the beats when playing in common time 1234,2234,3234,4234 . While playing the drum fill on the 4th count, I am not able to count 4234 while playing which makes me feel like I lack timing. How do I improve my sense of rhythm so that I can play the Drums and Guitar Solos in correct timing?

  6. I just bought a guitar after many, many years of not touching a guitar. I found your channel and I'm very impressed by your teaching style and how easy you make it for someone to follow your instructions. Thanks for putting it out there.
