Mercy Mercy Mercy by Joe Zawinul is considered the most famous fusion standard these days. It’s played at jazz sessions around the world. As an Austrian I, of course, had to come up with a guitar lesson of that great tune by my compatriot Joe Zawinul eventually 😉

In this Mercy Mercy Mercy guitar tutorial I’ll show you how to play this song in chord melody style on guitar, also called a solo piece. It actually was composed somewhat like a chord melody tune anyway. Joe built a lot of triads into the melody.
I’ll show you everything note for note, slow and easy.
Mercy Mercy Mercy is not really hard to play on guitar, if you already been playing for a little while. It’s an absolute ear catcher and all kind of people immidiatly fall in love with this great tune.

The Mercy Mercy Mercy guitar chords are very simple. We have mostly Bb and Eb triads in there and some dominant 7 and minor 7th chords. What I like about this jazz fusion song is the three parts, that are very different in the melody, but share mutual chords. I think the chords are what stick the three parts together, like glue.

I’ve made the Mercy Mercy Mercy guitar tab, which can be downloaded from the link above. Of course I’m also providing backing tracks for Mercy Mercy Mercy. One single and a 3x Loop, that you may want to use for live situations or longer practice 😉

I love how Mercy Mercy Mercy can be player instrumental. You can play it completely on your own, without the need for a band. But of course, the play along offers a nice add on. Also the bass plays quite an important role.

I tried to make my Mercy Mercy Mercy guitar lesson as easy as possible. I explain everything slowly and very detailed. You shouldn’t have any problems following my tutorial.
I hope you like my Mercy Mercy Mercy guitar lesson in chord melody style and give it a thumbs up. Please don’t forget to share the love and the knowledge. Be kind to one another in the comment section 😉
